[ News ]  VTC joined EdTechxAsia 2016 Summit cum Exhibition in Singapore - 2016-11-08
EdTechxAsia 2016 summit cum exhibition was the first of its kind in South-east Asia which brought together education leaders, investors, corporations and educators in the Asia-pacific region and provided insights into the latest trends and development of technology and innovation in the education sector. As the leading vocational education provider in Hong Kong, VTC was invited to be the supporting organisation of this event which held from 8 to 9 November 2016 in Singapore.

Apart from sharing our experiences in vocational and professional education and training (VPET), VTC also demonstrated at the exhibition applications of some state-of-the-art technologies used in teaching and learning, namely virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC). The VR demonstration, in particular, was well received by the participants, and most of them regarded the experience to be immersive and vivid.

Dr Clement Chen, Chairman of the VTC, delivered the speech titled “Technology Integration for the 21st Century Vocational Education” on the first day of the EdTechXAsia summit. He disseminated, from the perspective of VPET in Hong Kong, the essence of adopting a holistic approach in breeding talents for the future workforce, and in particular, for the Industry 4.0. When interviewed by the organiser following his speech, he reiterated the importance of equipping students with multiple skills sets and core competencies underpinned by a strong sense of ethics, in order to prepare them to cope with the dynamic world.

Dr Carrie Yau, Executive Director of VTC, took part in the panel discussion with other leading education leaders and specialists on the second day of the summit. Together they discussed the challenges encountered by training institutions around the world in nurturing work-readiness students for meeting the fast-paced economy, and cast light on the possible solutions to overcome the problems.

The 2-day EdTechXAsia summit cum conference provided VTC with the platform to interact with different parties around the world our beliefs and vision to future VPET, while preparing ourselves to hitch the high speed train of technology advancement in education in the 21st century.
