Over 100 participants attended the Opening Ceremony of the VTC’s third International Fortnight at Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) on 28 February. VTC Chairman Dr Clement CHEN and Deputy Chairman Professor Eric YIM officiated the ceremony together with Mr Jeff NANKIVELL, Consul General, Consulate General of Canada in Hong Kong and Macao; Mr Ali Nawaz MALIK, Consul Press, Consulate General of Pakistan, Hong Kong and Mr Robert D. QUINTIN, Vice Consul, Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong.

A video entitled “Fans of Internationalisation”, which summarises the internationalisation efforts of the VTC in the past few years, was premiered at the Ceremony.  During the sharing sessions, three international students from India, Pakistan and Italy respectively paired up with local peers to talk about the  culture characteristics, values and skills of their home countries.  The Ceremony also featured the appointment of 18 new International Student Ambassadors who will play an important role in promoting VTC’s international cultures by participating in various exchange events.

A number of cultural booths showcasing the cultures of Hungary, Israel, South Africa and Iran, as well as a special game booth organised by the Home Affairs Department, were set up to promote diversity and cultural harmony.  Special souvenirs and delicious snacks sponsored by the various consulate generals, added much to the joyous atmosphere of the day.

The third International Fortnight, running from 28 February to 10 March, was one of the major events being held in 2017 to celebrate the VTC’s 35th Anniversary.  It featured a series of cultural activities including Cultural Booths, International Fun Day, talks under the “Connecting to the World Seminar Series”, International Film Appreciation, Basketball for International Friendship and a Finale luncheon.
