Located in the north-western part of Guangdong Province, Qingyuan is not unfamiliar to the VTC because of the already established collaborations since 2014.   The delegation visit to Qingyuan on 17 and 18 April, led by Ms Josephine Kea, DED(D), however, carried a special meaning.   On the one hand, this is a return visit of the courtesy call by Mr Ge Changwei, Party Secretary of Qingyuan City, and his team in February.  And on the other, this visit serves to nail down the work plan between Qingyuan and VTC for 2016, which covers various scopes involving staff and students of both sides.   At a meeting held with the Deputy Mayor Ms Chen Jian Hua and other government officials, a working group consisting representatives from both sides was established and the next meeting confirmed to be held in Hong Kong in June.

Deputy Executive Director Professor Ronald Chung led a delegation of four to attend the Forum at the invitation of the organizer, The Promotion Council for Guangdong-HK-Macao Cooperation.  Unlike the previous six episodes, this was the first time the Forum was held outside Guangzhou, which reflected the importance and strategic development of Qingyuan in the Guangdong Province.  Chief Secretary of the HKSAR, Mrs Carrie Lam, was supposed to speak at the Forum conducted on the 21st if not hindered by the bad weather the night before.  On the Forum, THEi signed an MoU with Qingyuan Polytechnic to promote articulation arrangement between the two institutions, among thirty something other collaborations which were mainly investment in nature.  The day before the Forum, participants of the event were given the chance to have a glimpse of Qingyuan’s latest developments by visiting the City Planning Exhibition Hall, high speed rail station and the site of the new Chime Long forest-theme international tourism resort.  In Qingyuan, VTC found a lot of collaboration opportunities for the benefits of our students!
