Collaborations in the Greater Bay Area

 

The development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area) has brought the VTC many new opportunities for collaboration. Our flourishing partnership connects us with different associates from cities in the area, our students go on exchanges under various funding schemes, and familiarisation visits for staff members from various operational units have also been organised, enabling them to expand their networks.

The VTC and the Shenzhen Polytechnic (SZPT) has jointly set up a Greater Bay Area Student Exchange Alliance Secretariat in 2020 to promote exchanges and cooperation between institutions in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), enhancing student interactions and promoting cultural exchanges, knowledge sharing, innovation and entrepreneurship among young people in the GBA. A “Smart City Student Exchange” series was launched between April and July 2021 to empower students with the necessary competencies for the 21st century future workforce, encompassing virtual student exchange, webinars, virtual tours, student project showcases to enrich their learning experience.

 

The virtual opening ceremony held in April 2021 marked the kickoff of the Smart City Student Exchange Series, with guest speakers sharing on the Smart City development, opportunities and challenges in Hong Kong and Shenzhen. A total of 280 students and staff attended the event and positive feedback was received.

 

In May 2021, students from Engineering, Information Technology and Student Development Disciplines of VTC and School of Management and Artificial Intelligence of SZPT conceived their thematic projects under the theme of “Smart City” and showcased their learning achievements through virtual project presentations and demonstrations, around 250 students and staff participated in it.

 

The Closing Ceremony held in July 2021 denoted the successful completion of the Smart City Student Exchange Series in the academic year 2020/21 and was attended by nearly 400 students and staff. VTC and SZPT outstanding alumni were invited as guest speakers to share their experience and benefits of adopting the Building Information Modelling (BIM) in the construction industry, as well as the employment prospects after graduation.

Launched by the Ministry of Education in 2013, the Wan Ren Ji Hua Project aims at supporting the participation of undergraduate and postgraduate students of tertiary institutions in Hong Kong in various exchange activities on the Mainland such as lectures, workshops, industry visits and joint experimental projects. VTC and Shenzhen Polytechnic have participated jointly in this project since 2015. Over the past few years, 27 projects have been submitted, benefiting more than 500 students and staff members.

Shenzhen Polytechnic Online Summer Camp 2021

 

Shenzhen Polytechnic, a long-standing and valuable partner of VTC, organised an Online Summer Camp from 28 June to 2 July 2021 with different seminars and lectures covering a wide range of topics such as Chinese history and culture, economic development, Chinese Kung Fu, etc. The summer camp provided students with an invaluable opportunity to enrich their global vision and enhance their understanding of Mainland China and Shenzhen. Throughout the five-day virtual exchange programme, over 260 VTC students from various disciplines interacted with other 1,000 students from 11 countries, enjoying a global and holistic learning experience.

Guangxi-Hong Kong Vocational Education Development Alliance

Guangxi – Hong Kong Vocational Education Centre Project

 

As a Chinese-foreign cooperative education institution offering higher education, Guangxi-Hong Kong Vocational Education Development Alliance (桂港現代職業教育發展中心) launched two collaborative programmes in Hotel Management and International Economic & Trade in September 2020 respectively. The programmes were coordinated by the Institute of Professional Education And Knowledge (PEAK) and Nanning College of Vocational Technology, with the support from Business and Hospitality Disciplines of the VTC. The Alliance has started planning and developing the collaborative programme in Art & Design for the academic year 2021/22
 
Training programmes on whole person development were also delivered by PEAK to over 200 senior management and teachers from vocational institutes in Guangxi Province in November 2020 and June 2021.
