Sino-Germany Vocational Education Forum (中德职业教育研讨会) (11 April 2019)

VTC was invited by Shenzhen Education Bureau to speak on the topic “Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology and Vocational Education Development” at the Sino-Germany Vocational Education Forum held at the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology.  The forum aims to share the cooperation and achievements in vocational education between Shenzhen, China and Bavaria, Germany, and the global and Mainland development trend of vocational education.  Mr Adrian Peter Ort, Principal of Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Kwai Chung) also represented VTC to speak on the topic “Skilling for Professionalism – Hong Kong’s Vision for a Smart City”. Mr Ort shared Hong Kong’s perspective and experience in skilling the next generation of our workforce, transforming Hong Kong into a smart city and enhancing the role of vocational education to better serve the development of the economy, as well as sharing the latest happenings at VTC in Hong Kong.
VTC and Shenzhen Polytechnic senior management meet in Shenzhen (14 March 2019)

Shortly after the Chinese New Year holidays, VTC Chairman and Executive Director led a group of senior management to Shenzhen Polytechnic (SZPT) to meet with their top management and discuss how the two parties could work more closely in the coming year, under the drive of the GBA Outline Development Plan.  The trip was joined by an official from the Education Bureau, Ms Elaine Mak, demonstrating that the Bureau also recognise the importance of the Shenzhen Polytechnic partnership.  The visit also provided an opportunity to meet with Shenzhen Polytechnic’s new Principal, Professor Yang Xinbin.  This high profile meeting between the two partners was very fruitful, with a dedicated joint task force already formed to take forward the projects discussed – it looks like 2019 will be another busy year!
Ningbo-Hong Kong Cooperation Forum 2018 (2018年市人社局甬港合作論壇) (15 November 2018)

VPET policy makers, practitioners, industry leaders and experts gathered at Ningbo-Hong Kong Cooperation Forum 2018 (2018年市人社局甬港合作論壇) to exchange views on the skills agenda and development between Ningbo and Hong Kong across a broad spectrum of areas.  Representing VTC at the event, organised by the Ningbo Human Resources and Social Security Bureau (寧波市人力資源和社會保障局), Ms Gladys Yam, then Principal of the Institute of Professional Education And Knowledge (PEAK), signed an MoU with the Bureau, which aims to jointly elevate the skills of manpower in both cities.  Ms Yam also spoke at the Forum on the “Apprenticeship System in Hong Kong and VTC’s multi-faceted Earn and Learn Scheme”.
World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP) 2018 World Congress, Australia (8 - 10 October 2018)
Australia continues to lead the way in “Preparing for the Skills Future, Now”. This relevant and timely theme was the focus of the WFCP 2018 World Congress, attended by a number of VTC colleagues, who also explored collaboration opportunities after the Congress on pre-arranged visits to Australian Skills Quality Authority, Box Hill Institute, Holmesglen Institute, Melbourne Polytechnic, Swinburne University of Technology and William Angliss Institute. Sessions at the Congress highlighted resilience, entrepreneurial mind-set, media and information literacy, cultural competency, life-long learning, and leadership as key employability skills and competencies for the ever-changing world of work.
Visit to Biel Crystal (HK) Manufactory Ltd (6 June 2017)
Biel Crystal’s plant in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, has over 80,000 employees and is the largest manufacturing concern in the locality.  Targeted at knowing better how large scale manufacturer is operating the Mainland China, Deputy Executive Director Ms Josephine Kea led a delegation to visit the plant located in the Huizhou Industrial Zone on 6 June, and was taken to tour around the workshops, laboratories and showrooms.  The glass products of Biel are widely used in mobile phones, watches, computers and many high end electronic devices.  The delegation was received by the President of Biel, Dr K M Yeung, the owner of this Hong Kong based company, and potential discussion of taking VTC students for internship at the plant had been discussed.
